CHARMAN FARMS
Charman Farms is a small family farm nestled in the Trincomali Valley of North Pender Island, B. C. The farm is blessed with an unusual Mediterranean climate, ideal for growing our specialty varieties of gourmet garlic.
We enjoy year-round gardening in this very sheltered part of Canada's Gulf Islands, with a climate similar to Tripoli's - winter cool wet and summer hot and dry.
Our garlic is planted, weeded and harvested by hand. All Charman farms garlic is grown organically in virgin soil. No herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizer have ever touched the fine valley bottom soil. Years of cover cropping peas, rye and buckwheat combined with biological input from our horse and dairy goat manures have given us a soil that most gardeners can only dream of.
This combination of climate, soil and years growing experience has allowed us to earn scores of Blue ribbons for our garlic and other produce, culminating in the coveted Award of Excellence in 2000.
